Local author Anthony Swann at Gallery North on Friday
A long-time Bemidji resident, he has served on various art boards, is known for his poetry, and debuting a book of fiction, “To Search the Night” this winter.
At Gallery North, he will be signing copies of his poetry book, “Paint with Words.” Gallery North is located at 310 Fourth St. NW.
Swann was born in 1942 and grew up in Crosslake, Minn. After attending college, he lived in Minneapolis, where he co-founded a jazz coffeehouse called the Broken Drum. He has traveled widely and has lived for periods of time in San Francisco and Las Vegas as well as long stints in Mexico and Brazil.
He has written poetry most of his life and is very adept at reading it. He has read his work at the University of Minnesota, Bemidji State University, The Loft Literary Center, and various Minneapolis and Las Vegas coffeehouses. In 2006, he was invited to read at The California Legion of Honor in San Francisco. A great lover of jazz and Latin music, he is currently finishing his first work of fiction about the jazz world.
