FOOTBALL: Bemidji settles in for final stretch
BEMIDJI -- With five wins in six games, the No. 10 spot in the QRF rankings for Class 5A, a 3-0 record in Section 8-5A play and two games to go before playoffs, this fall has turned into one with unlimited potential for the Bemidji High School football team.
For this week’s game, the Lumberjacks head to Sartell, where they will take on the winless Sabres of Sartell-St. Stephen (0-6), who are last (47th) in the QRF rankings.
The Sabres and Lumberjacks have had three common opponents this season. While Bemidji lost to Sauk Rapids-Rice (38-37) in a storm-shortened game and beat Moorhead (43-28) and Alexandria (30-12), Sartell lost to all three – 17-16 to Alex, 42-13 to Sauk Rapids and 37-17 to Moorhead last week.
A win for the Jacks would likely secure the top seed in the Section 8-5A bracket, regardless of what happens in week eight against QRF No. 14 St. Cloud Tech.
Among section teams, Brainerd currently sits in second behind Bemidji at No. 17 in the QRF rankings, followed by No. 33 Alexandria, No. 37 Moorhead and No. 47 Sartell-St. Stephen.
Kickoff for Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m. in Sartell.
